Local magician Adam Smith is undertaking a unique challenge this summer. He will be performing an array of his clever conjuring tricks on The Pantiles Bandstand for 48 hours straight in order to raise money for charity. The Times found out why he is working three days flat out for Multiple Sclerosis

Adam Smith

Local professional magician, Adam Smith has a passion for magic that runs deep. His skill and charisma has given him audiences with many celebrities including Kate Moss, Jude Law, Rio Ferdinand and Dame Kelly Homes but in August he will be performing his greatest act to date: an astounding 48 hours of non-stop magic.

The action will take place on The Pantiles Bandstand, from midday on Sunday August 7 and will finish on Tuesday August 9 at the same time. Adam will only be leaving the bandstand for comfort breaks.

Such an incredible feat of skill and endurance warrants a special reason and it’s fair to say Adam has just that.

“When I was 13 my mother Sue was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and to see your mum go from the active lady she was, to being in a wheelchair almost overnight was heart-breaking,” Adam explains.

“Yet although my mum was confined to a wheelchair, she never let it stop her being the most caring, outgoing and fun mum she had always been and she certainly never showed my sister and me the pain and anguish she was in.

“My mum has been through so much over the past 30 years and never once complained. She has been the most amazing mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend anyone could be. Seeing her with my children makes me smile all the time and I know how much the children inspire her and keep her going through the pain.

Adam goes on to say: “My mum is always there for me through fun times and tough times helping, caring and even just being there to listen. I can never thank her enough so I am doing a 48hour magic marathon to raise money for MS to help support people like her and others, and hopefully one day to find a cure for this crippling disease.”

The talented magician will be joined by a plethora of street entertainers throughout his 48hour marathon and there will also be a raffle and plenty of additional entertainment to enjoy over the three day fundraiser.

Adam will be on The Pantiles’ Bandstand from 12pm Sunday August 7 until 12pm Tuesday August 9. To find out more about MS visit www.mssociety.org.uk
