MEMBERS of the Tonbridge boating community are again facing eviction after receiving another notice from their landowner’s solicitors.

The Barden Road Boaters were relieved earlier this month when the threat to be evicted on November 5  was postponed for four weeks. They interpreted the delay as a sign that Mr Mockford, the landowner, was softening his position, and collectivey they were ‘filled with hope’ by the news.

But on Friday (November 18) Helen Kirk, one of the 13 boat owners, received a letter from Mr Mockford’s solicitors stating they must ‘vacate the premises’ by December 2.

It went on to say: “In respect of any Boaters who remain at the premises after 2 December, 2016, we are instructed to obtain a court order compelling their cooperation.

“Should it be necessary forour client to issue possession proceedings, we shall also be seeking an order that the Boaters pay our client’s costs of these proceedings. We anticipate that our client’s legal costs will be in excess of £20,000 plus VAT.”

Upon receiving the news, Ms Kirk said she was going to make contact with the council, adding: “I don’t know what I’m going to do, it’s very scary. It’s frightening not knowing where we can go, what we can do. It’s very emotionally upsetting.”
