A LOCAL breakfast networking group has presented two of its members with a wedding present of a cheque for the neo-natal unit that saved their grandson’s life.
The President of the Royal Spa BNI Chapter, Debbie Harris of Chosen with Care, married cameraman and editor Rob King on November 24.
Rather than receive gifts, they asked for donations to the Oliver Fischer Neo-Natal Ward at Medway Hospital, where Debbie’s grandson Harry was cared for after he was born in August.
Harry’s mother, Emma Harris, of local company Harris Gardens, is also a member of BNI Royal Spa.
Vice-President Julian Weekes presented them with a cheque for £270 at a meeting attended by 80 local businesses.
“We were taken aback by the generosity of our fellow BNI members,” said Debbie Harris. “And we are delighted to be able to support the fantastic work of the neo-natal ward at Medway Hospital with their donation.
“The week following Harry’s birth was very difficult, so we have seen first-hand just how amazing the staff are and how important it is to make sure that the necessary support is available for sick babies and their families.”
Emma Harris brought Harry along to the presentation, and she said: “BNI has been invaluable at helping my brother and I get our family-run garden maintenance company off the ground, so Harry and I didn’t want to miss this lovely event.”
The Royal Spa BNI Chapter has seen 35 members passing more than £700,000 of business between themselves over the past 12 months. The group meets at the Spa Hotel in Tunbridge Wells every Thursday morning.
