Endurance football to help child refugees

Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys

Students at Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys are staging a 24-hour football match to raise money for Save the Children to help refugees.

The pupils have been inspired to perform the marathon feat after being moved by the appalling conditions endured by young refugees around the world.

Year 12 student Thomas Burbelly, who organised the contest, said: “We have seen on the news the impact of war and natural disasters on children and how they have to flee their country, moving into camps with little shelter, and little food and water.

“We want to improve their quality of life and living conditions by helping Save the Children provide tents and blankets as well as food and water to the child refugees to keep them warm and prevent them becoming malnourished.”

The match will start tomorrow (July 14) at 2pm, featuring 35 children playing five-a-side matches lasting 30 minutes each.
