TUNBRIDGE WELLS fought back from a 1-0 deficit to draw away at promotion contenders AFC Croydon thanks to a superb Ryan Crandley goal.

Wells had never taken a point at Mayfield Stadium since Croydon came into the Southern Counties East League.

The match was goalless at half-time despite an entertaining, end-to-end first half in which Josh Biddlecombe had a good chance to poke home Jon Pilbeam’s cross.

Croydon started the second half brightly and came close to opening the scoring in the 52nd minute when they hit the post.

The home side finally broke the deadlock on 68 minutes when the league’s leading scorer Warren Mfula grabbed his 23rd goal of the season off a rebound after Steve Lawrence made the initial save.

Manager Jason Bourne made his final substitution in the 73rd minute, bringing on Crandley, and it proved inspired as he scored a deserved equaliser in the 85th minute.

Pilbeam, who was having an exceptional game, delivered a deep cross that was met by Crandley with a diving header into the net.
