Tonbridge Angels 1 Worthing 2
THERE was heartbreak for Tonbridge Angels after a dramatic climax saw the Rebels come from behind to win with two goals in time added on at the end of the match.
Angels goalkeeper Jonny Henly had an outstanding first half and had to be on his best form, thwarting the lively Worthing forwards.
Isaac Newton saw three decent chances saved, and shortly before half-time Reece Myles-Meekums attempted an audacious lob from 45 yards that hit the woodwork.
Tonbridge had half-chances for Alex Akrofi, Joe Turner and Xavier Vidal but were grateful to reach half-time still at level pegging.
The second period saw Tonbridge taking a more assertive approach and Vidal forced two excellent saves from Lucas Cavagnari.
They took a deserved lead in the 62nd minute when Turner converted Sam Bantick’s free kick.
But Worthing never gave up and drew level in the 90th minute through Newton. With the Tonbridge defence visibly tiring the Rebels took all three points seconds later through Ben Pope.
Deep in stoppage time Nathan Elder missed an open goal and the match had slipped away.
Angels, who remain in 11th place in the Bostik League Premier, now entertain Kingstonian on Saturday (March 17, 3pm kick-off).
