WITH Tonbridge Angels’ senior side recording positive results in the run-up to Christmas, the club’s youth teams have also been in strong form.
Earlier this month, the Under-13s boys took on a strong Larkfield team at Longmead Stadium and emerged as 3-1 winners.
The home side went behind early on but the equaliser came after a half-volley pass saw Joe Tyrie racing through to hit a first-time shot on his left foot. The keeper made a great save but Chester Smith was on hand to side-foot the rebound into the net.
Angels’ Billy Kent headed home a second shortly afterwards from a Toby Lansdowne cross and then added a fine third before half-time, holding off two defenders and bending a shot into the right-hand corner.
The Angels Under-16s’ last match of the year at Maidstone turned out to be a close encounter that went to the wire.
Applying early pressure, the home side scored within 90 seconds thanks to a defensive miscue. Despite competing strongly, Angels found themselves 2-0 down before the break.
However, they responded positively and pulled a goal back through a penalty, which gave the team hope.
With just minutes to go, Angels had a free-kick on the left, midway into Maidstone’s half, and Josh Fisher stepped up to take it.
His delivery was perfect and his low, out-swinging cross caused disarray in the defence. Harvey Robinson, captain and Angels’ top scorer, found the time to pick out the bottom corner and made it 2-2.
