Tonbridge Angels 0 Harlow Town 3
HARLOW TOWN put a dent in the Angels’ play-off hopes while also helping their own aspirations of joining the end-of-season shake-up with a comfortable victory.
The visitors took the lead after just two minutes when Ibrahim Sonko rose unopposed to head the ball home via the underneath of the crossbar.
The home side had a couple of chances on the half-hour. Alex Akrofi’s shot grazed the upright and Nicky Wheeler’s close-range effort was well held by Harlow keeper David Hughes.
Sonko nearly repeated his earlier feat but his header right on half-time crashed against the bar.
The same player scored his second in the 79th minute, latching on to a loose ball after the Angels failed to clear a corner.
The Hawks’ triumph was confirmed in the 84th minute when Fabian Simms scored – again as a result of a corner Tonbridge failed to deal with.
Angels manager Steve McKimm said: “We went to look at Harlow play Burgess Hill midweek and identified their strength at set-pieces.
“This information was given to the players, and what happens? They score from three set-pieces.”
He added: “Such is our form, at this rate we will be lucky to finish in the top eight.”
Tonbridge stay in fifth position thanks to defeats for Dulwich Hamlet and Wingate & Finchley. But the play-offs seem a distant goal.
