Cray Valley 1 Tunbridge Wells 2
TUNBRIDGE WELLS kept up their strong start to the season against a Cray Valley team -brimming with confidence after three straight wins in the Southern Counties East Premier League.
Wells took the lead on 12 minutes when Danny Moore played in Steven Ita on the left, and he cut in and fired a shot into the top corner.
In the 33rd minute the referee awarded Cray a penalty when Steve Ikpeme was adjudged to have fouled Ben Francis. The striker struck the spot-kick to the bottom left-hand corner only to see Muhammed Otyuo make a fantastic save, tipping the ball around the post.
Otyuo made another good save just before half-time when Cray struck a shot from 20 yards that he did well to tip around the post, and Wells went into the interval 1-0 up.
Wells started the second half brightly with Ita causing problems while Jake Beecroft and Jamie Lawrence controlled the midfield.
On the hour, Wells manager Jason Bourne bought on Bayley Colbran for his league debut.
The visitors won a corner which was delivered to the back post, Perry Spackman headed it back across goal and an unmarked Colbran on the far post headed Wells’ second goal with his first touch.
Cray pulled a goal back in the 82nd minute through Jordan Sandiford to make it a nervous last few minutes.
Wells are back in action in the FA Cup on Saturday (September 16) with a tie away at Conference South side Concord Rangers.
