ONE of the last vestiges of light industry in Tunbridge Wells looks likely to be converted into flats after a planning application was made for the site currently occupied by Travis Perkins on Tunnel Road.
Developers Ashill Land have submitted plans to convert the site currently occupied by the building merchants into 12 apartments – all but one of which will be two bedroom.
Much of the development will be confined within the existing Victorian office building currently situated on the premises addressed as 25-27 Tunnel Road, with documents stating ‘no extensions are proposed’.
Some minor conversions, such as the addition of new window opening and the demolition of a modern annex will be needed.
In addition, there are plans for 14 parking spaces, meaning all apartments will be catered for, with the addition of two visitor spaces. The existing storage yard will be landscaped to provide soft landscaping, refuse and cycle storage. A low brick wall and railings will replace the current palisade fencing surrounding the property.
The application was submitted on March 21 and no date has yet been announced for its consideration.
