POULT WOOD Golf Course near Tonbridge will be hosting the first Southern Disability Open on Friday 19 May.
The event is being organised by Tonbridge & Malling Leisure Trust in conjunction with Kent Golf.
Taking place on both the 18 and nine-hole courses, competitors are assured of a welcoming and enjoyable event at an accessible and friendly facility.
The longer competition will start at 9.30am with the short course version beginning at midday.
The competition is open to Category 1, 2 and 3 golfers and will be played to the modified rules published by the R&A.
There are 60 places available in the 18-hole competition for those with a ‘competition’ handicap not exceeding 54 under the CONGU Unified Handicapping System or comparable scheme.
Tonbridge & Malling Leisure Trust also wants to welcome disabled golfers looking to return to the game or who wish to start playing.
It is offering an initiative called Give Golf a Go, which includes expert PGA Tuition on our driving range, followed by a round on the nine-hole course. It starts at midday, and all equipment is provided.
“We are very pleased to be hosting this new event in the golfing calendar and look forward to welcoming golfers and participants from Kent and further afield,” said Adam Perry, the Leisure Trust’s Head of Business Development.
“Poult Wood offers the ideal facilities for the competition and we feel honoured to be running it for the first time in the South-East.”
Jamie Blair, England Golf’s Disability Manager, said: “I am delighted to see Kent Golf with Poult Wood host the Southern Disability Open, creating a golf event for disabled players within the county of Kent and in the South East.
“The event will provide a great opportunity for existing disabled players to compete and provide an opportunity for new disabled players getting into golf through the work of clubs across the county to put their skills in practice over nine or 18 holes”
The entry deadline is 5pm on Wednesday May 10, with competitors accepted on a first come first served basis. For more information, visit email@example.com
