YOUNG tyro of the baize Dylan Smith pitted his burgeoning talents against the mighty Jimmy White when the whirlwind blew into town at the Tenterden Snooker Club for a charity evening organised by the Hurst Green Snooker & Billiards League.

Jimmy agreed to play nine frames, which were introduced by the evening’s MC Jonny Barren, a presenter with BBC 5 Live radio and the Sky walk-on girl Jade Slusarczyk.

One of them was against 10-year-old Dylan from Tunbridge Wells, son of the league Chairman Lee Smith. Dylan, who is hoping to become a professional, has received coaching from World Tour player Leo Fernandez and practises with Ben Sizer, five-times Kent Under-21 champion.

Dylan was given a 75-point lead and eventually won 91-89 by calmly potting the final difficult black into the middle pocket.

The league’s most consistent performer Anthony Buss also beat the six-time World Championship finalist. He produced a break of 45 to win 62-39.

The night was dedicated to the memory of Vic Barnes and raised more than £200 for Prostrate Cancer UK. Jimmy donated a cue signed by stars of the game, to be put up for auction.
