The Mead School in Tunbridge Wells celebrates 30 years this Summer and what a celebration it is proving to be!
The Mead prides itself on celebrating the whole child and every child, giving everyone the chance to explore, experience, feel success and discover their inner selves.
This term has seen Year 6 win the National ISA Drama Competition for the second year running with their production of ‘Peter Pan’. The Independent Schools Association Drama Festival is held annually in venues across the UK. The Mead School’s Year 6 won best Junior Production and Mead student Amelia James, age 10, won best Junior Girl Performer for her performance as Wendy.
Five pupils from our Story Writing Club are having their poems published in August – an amazing achievement given that there were 35, 000 entries into this competition. The Mead pupils’ poems will be published in a book showcasing young writers’ work called Once Upon A Dream – Capture The Imagination.
Four teams of Mead pupils have entered a Young Enterprise competition and the school is buzzing with promotional websites for car washing and various advertising initiatives. The challenge is to make a profit – tricky once you have subtracted your expenses from your takings!
The Mead is culturally rich enjoying a huge range of visits and visitors – these have inspired year 5 to design and build incredibly creative places of worship, worthy of an exhibition and this is all before half-term!
The celebrations will continue, culminating in a whole school musical production of ‘Singing in the Rain’ to be performed at the Trinity Theatre in July.
Headteacher and founder of The Mead Mrs Angela Culley retires in July and says ‘The Mead is a very special place and its unique ethos and set of values is deeply ingrained within its building and within every Meadite. I have every confidence the next 30 years will be as exciting, aspirational and inspirational as the last 30 and future Meadites will also have a great deal to celebrate’.
The Mead School is holding an Open Day on Thursday 18th May. With tours of the school and a chance to meet pupils, staff and new Headmaster Andrew Webster, this is a great opportunity for prospective parents to learn about life at this happy and high-achieving school.
