Anchorians Development 1 Tonbridge Angels Ladies 6
TONBRIDGE ANGELS Ladies are through to the Kent County Plate quarter-finals after a 6-1 win at the Gillingham club.
The hosts are riding high in the Kent Division Two West, a division below Tonbridge.
But any concerns that they might prove a banana skin were put to rest in the opening quarter of an hour.
In the third minute Megan Akehurst’s shot was well saved by the home goalkeeper but top scorer Becky Janes was quickest to react, converting the rebound for her 15th goal of the season.
Janes increased that tally in the 14th minute when a shot from distance caught goalkeeper Davies by surprise.
Anchorians grew into the game and kept the score at 2-0 until the break, but a glut of goals early in the second half secured the tie for Angels.
On 51 minutes Akehurst teed up Alex Weston to fire home for her first goal for the club.
Three minutes later Lauryn Underhill was put through on goal by Kelly Moran and produced a cool finish.
The score was 5-0 after 59 minutes when a long kick from goalkeeper Sam Wright beat the defence and Akehurst applied the finish.
The goal was marred by a head injury to Anchorians’ Ellen Ellis, who could play no further part in the match.
The home side pulled a goal back through Zoeanne Pound in the 70th minute but the best goal of the match was saved until last.
Underhill picked up a pass from Maisie Gibb on the left, beat two players and rifled a shot into the roof of the net for her 12th goal of the season.
The Ladies are back in league action this Sunday [November 26] when they visit Teynham Gunners.
